Timeline Training
We say, “Timing is everything.” Such is also true in training and development. Evidence shows that very often training makes little or no difference in job behavior. We often “put employees through training” because a program happens to be onsite and you need to fill the class or the employee is demonstrating poor performance and you’re looking for a quick fix. “Is this the right time?” is an important question to ask when introducing training to an employee. Three key ingredients to an employee’s success in training and development:
1. The employee’s readiness to learn
2. Understanding the transferability back to the workplace and his/her job or career
3. The organizational support and reinforcement of the training upon return to work
